I've been into eating healthy and staying fit for a long time. But as a curious person that needs new information, I try to seek out the latest science to further advance myself. I found this podcast a while back, and it has taught me some good tips, as well as broken it down for me. It helps when you really understand the science of how your body works, and motivation to give your body what it really needs!

I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to nutrition and healthy living, I probably would have become a nutritionist if I didn't do art. :) This episode is a good one to explain how if you eat more (and the right things), and exercise moderately, you can lose bodyfat. As opposed to starving yourself and exercising a ton, which will cause you to gain bodyfat, or not lose weight. Sounds counterintuitive at first, but once you understand it, it can really help out. As a tall girl who has always been 'thin,' I've gone through phases where I wasn't eating much, eating the wrong things and hence becoming 'skinny fat.' My bodyfat once was around 30%, which is borderline overweight! Over the last year I have leaned out a bit changing small things through out my day. I enjoy being healthy and fit, and I'd like to make permanent changes so that it just becomes habit. As an artist I also like to design myself toward my ideal, as I grew up on comics and super heroes. :D
Hope you can get some use and good tips/info from this podcast as I have.

Barbie Princess Charm School Art

The art I did for the new Barbie movie " Princess Charm school" is out. I did storyboards, sketching, and character rendering. But especially painted Barbie's faces, and added muscle tone/character to her. I want Barbie to look happy, athletic, and full of life, inspirational in the right way. Barbie eats lots of protein and does lots of yoga. :) They call me "Barbie's plastic surgeon" at work. Its lots of fun to give life and character/charm to a character I've known since I was a kid. I've had a great time working at Mattel for the past year. I'll update when more of the titles Ive worked on get released. But keep an eye out for my name in the credits of Princess Charm School. :)

Vayne the Night Hunter .. League of Legends Game

I got lucky enough to have my work shown to Riot games, and they asked me to help concept some female champions!! First up, Vayne the Night Hunter. She's a dark and mysterious chick, sexy, but not over the top. They told me, make her tall and badass, a bit vampire hunter, but still unique. She's got a huge crossbow on her back, and a smaller hand crossbow that shoots sliver arrows.
I still have to wait for approval to show my art of her, but in the meantime,, check out her splash art and in game pics! They hired another artist to paint up the splash art, pretty cool!
I also designed her Victorian skin, I think officially its called Aristocratic Skin. What do you think?

Bad Brains Doc

Ive been working on a documentary about Bad Brains over the last few months. The legendary hardcore/punk/reggae band. I'm making drawings describing some of the stories of the band's career. There will be illustrations cut in, like the doc "The Crips and The Bloods, Made in America." I've gotten into the band's music, appreciated their history and just feel thankful to be working on this cool project. Its directed by the same person that made "Too Tough To Die: A Tribute To Johnny Ramone" and "Burning Down The House: The Story of CBGB." I'll keep you updated on the release!

Modern Fitness 101 Logo

I was hired to update the logo of Personal Trainer Mitch Harrington. His original logo was basic, and sporty, but he came to me with ideas to make the logo more "3d." After going back and forth until it was just right, we finally got it. From top, final logo, first '3d' stage, and original logo.
At first I was intimidated because I have a hard time with Illustrator, I find it very rigid and technical, but I'm getting over it and changing my opinion on it after this. I like helping with logos and making this kind of fresh/reflective/3d style paintings for icons and logos. If you would like to hire me to design your logo, please get in touch. :)

Girl 3 of Ballet Lingerie series. Still working up this image, I think I've found a rendering style I like for these. This one is the 3rd girl, and the most far along. I decided to light these a bit more moody, been having so much fun with these drawings. I've been drawing them up in Sketchbook Pro, and coloring them in Photoshop.
I really wish this outfit was real! I'd wear it to Burning Man. ;) I would like to design lingerie for a company, I'd make stuff like this, and some really wild sci fi style stuff. :D

Here is a preview of another image in the Ballet Lingerie series I'm working on. I've been busy working on storyboards for a Coca Cola commercial for the last month, and another secret project. But in between I have been drawing up elements of this series. Its a series of images of Dancers. This is girl 2 in the series (see girl 1 in previous post). I'm still designing colors and composition, it took me like 4 hours to draw up the stool alone. I'm looking forward to seeing how these look together. What do you think?

Started scribbling in Sketchbook Pro today, just to warm up. Something fun came out of it :). I really like how drawing in that program feels, the lines are easy to make, so you just keep going. Liquified some parts in photoshop to get last minute proportions right, but its a cartoon, doesnt have to be super real. I mean, c'mon look at the size of the eyes. Anyway had fun making this, enjoy.

This goes out to all the Dj's that I've ever loved, or have made my night , or moment. I had fun with this image, it was a sketch for ages, I even left the original sketch in there because I didnt want to eliminate it. I had been working on this image for a while, the background was different, I even had no background for a while. But one night I reversed the background image and it worked perfectly. The contrast is much better. I love contrast. Learned that inverting images to better suit and highlight the drawing works wonders. Enjoy.

I found this on my old ass hard drive. Drawing I made like in 2003 or 2004. This was back when I was into neckwear. I wore a silk scarf or bow tie everyday. I was known at college as that girl who wears scarves. I had this preference and thought that necks are super private and sexy and they shouldn't be shown in public. How old fashioned of me! I just also thought it was super fun to match them.
I was so into doing drawings on patterned paper at this time. Then the whole grid paper art, Napoleon dynamite style got trendy. It happens a lot, artists get on the same buzz with making art with the same kind of material. Anyway enjoy.

So I want to start making art for music stuff, been brushing up some "graphic design" skills and playing around with type, textures and stuff like that. So I thought I would amuse myself and reach out to a few of my favorite producers/DJ's in Dubstep. All of these artists have inspired me with their music. In my dreams I would love for all of them to come to LA and play a show on my birthday. Cute huh? Well I just made this to amuse myself and pay a very loving tribute to all of them. You guys bring the best beats to my ears and brains, and in my dreams, this event would be real. ;)

I found this drawing and wanted to bring it to a 'finished' stage. What does that even mean anyway? Artists can spend so much time working on something without thinking its finished. So I guess I should say, I wanted to brush it up, finesse it, to a point where I was satisfied. I wanted to make an image where it looks like I'm taking a break from walking in some desolate place. This is one of my favorite settings. In a desert on some planet, or maybe on this one :) I'll probably be making more images at this fantasy location of mine. Many things go on there in my imagination...

I dont necessarily draw the best at this stage, nor do I care that they look like crap at first. But usually when I get excited about a sketch then it makes me hyped to flesh it out more. Self portrait I finished last night, an experiment in color and painting. Sketch in b&w to color. I'm happy with how it came out. A bit of attitude in the cold.. in my favorite hat. Thanks to James for helping with the perspective issues. I like to draw scrappy and sort out technical details later. Still working out my favorite painting technique. I like many.
